In this guide, we explore the front (nose) of the various models of the Mercedes Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter, and MAN TGE. This will help you determine which DutchVanParts products fit your van. So, if you have any doubts about which model Mercedes Sprinter, Volkswagen Crafter or MAN is yours, look at the nose and follow this guide.
The most significant exterior changes in the Mercedes Sprinters from 2006 to 2018+ can be seen in the grille, the bumper, and the lights. The Mercedes Sprinters transition from two horizontal lines in the grille to three and take on increasingly rounded shapes. The lights become smaller and more modern, switching to LED. The most notable change in the bumper is the thicker edge around the grille that extends into the bumper.
The most noticeable exterior differences between the Volkswagen Crafter 1st generation and the Volkswagen Crafter 2nd generation at the front are in an overall sleeker, more modern look. The lights are smaller and feature LED lighting. The grille transitions from three horizontal lines to two broader ones, and the bumper adopts wide, horizontally flaring lines at the bottom.
However, the most important difference between the Volkswagen Crafter 1st generation and the Volkswagen Crafter 2nd generation is the new chassis.
The chassis, co-developed by Mercedes and Volkswagen, was the chassis on which the Volkswagen Crafter 1st generation and the Mercedes Sprinter W906 were built from 2006 to 2017. The models after 2017 have a different chassis.
In 2017, Volkswagen, together with MAN, launched a new chassis on which the Volkswagen Crafter 2nd generation and the MAN TGE (2017+) are built. In these new models from Volkswagen and MAN, you can see that they opted for more streamlined shapes, while the Mercedes Sprinter with the W907 and W910 chose a rounder and more robust design.
The nose of the MAN TGE (2017+) is, apart from the logo, virtually identical to that of the Volkswagen Crafter 2nd generation.
